Like a ghost in a strange world
Reading from memoirs by and about Sergei Rachmaninoff and short stories by Ivan Bunin
Piano music by Sergei Rachmaninoff: excerpts from Morceaux de Fantaisie, Moments Musicaux, Préludes, Études-Tableaux, the Second Sonata for Piano op. 36 and the Variations on a Theme by Corelli op. 42

150 years ago the pianist and composer Sergei Rachmaninov was born. For Corinna Harfouch, Rachmaninoff’s music is a matter of the heart. Hideyo Harada, as a pupil of Viktor Mershanov, who studied with Rachmaninov’s friend Alexander Goedicke, is in direct tradition with the composer. Rachmaninoff was on friendly terms with Ivan Bunin, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature: An evening about exile and homesickness and about indomitable humanity in times of war and terror.
