Christina Nilsson is the new great operatic soprano from Sweden. At the Bayreuth Festival last year she made her debut as Elisabeth in "Tannhäuser", as Freia in "Das Rheingold" and as the third Norn in "Götterdämmerung". In the same year she sang the title role in "Aida" at the New York Metropolitan Opera and received the Musikexportpriset from the Swedish government for her outstanding achievements worldwide.
The acclaimed Wagner singer is almost our neighbour: she comes from Ystad, where the ferry from Świnoujście (Swinemünde) arrives. For her visit to Usedom she has brought romantic songs from her homeland, Swedish songs of love and landscape by the Finn Jean Sibelius, and rousing miniatures of joie de vivre by Richard Strauss.
