Dear festival audience

After Lithuania and Estonia in the past two years, we are putting Latvia at the center of our program in 2023. 150 years ago, in 1873, the first Latvian Singing Festival was held in Riga. At that time, the name of the country – “Latvija” – was pronounced loudly and publicly for the first time. The Usedom Music Festival sees itself as the podium of the Baltic Sea: can you celebrate the 30th festival season more beautifully than by commemorating this great Latvian anniversary? We have a lot to offer this year: Latvian music from the Middle Ages to the jazz of our days. Latvian star soprano Marina Rebeka will be there, as will the world-renowned Wagner singer Egils Siliņš. Katharina Wagner will also come to Usedom to talk about her great-grandfather Richard Wagner in Riga. Young Latvian virtuosos such as the pianist Georgijs Osokins or the cellist Magdalena Ceple prove how vital the Baltic republic is also at present. The Baltic Sea Philharmonic and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra open and close the season in Peenemünde. In between, you can expect a program that you will not find a second time, and in one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Baltic Sea.
