Two swans fly from right to left on the Finnish euro coin. Next to the cranes, they are the strongest symbol of nature for the mythology of the North. The swan represents the height of the sky, the vastness of the sea, change, transformation and blossoming, from ugly duckling to great beauty. His song overcomes the border from this world to the beyond. The swan of Tuonela is also the messenger of the realm of the dead in the Finnish national epic ‘Kalevala’. The enchanted swan princess in Tchaikovsky’s ‘Swan Lake’ can only be released from her curse by true love. This special concert of the Baltic Sea Philharmonic lets the swans sing, dance and fly with Kristjan Järvi – breakup into another world, in which the international orchestra founded by the Usedom Music Festival shows at the historic location what the country-uniting power of music can make possible.
