HERMANN SUDERMANN: The Journey to Tilsit
Romantic Piano Music from East Prussia and Lithuania by Max Laurischkus, Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis and Adolf Jensen
Ansas, a rich Lithuanian peasant at the Curonian Lagoon, has fallen in love with his pretty maid, Busze. Only one stands in the way of their happiness: Indre, the beautiful, kind wife of Ansas. What to do? Ansas thinks of a trick and invites his wife to a boat trip across the lagoon and upstream the Memel to Tilsit. But everything turns out differently than expected. Hermann Sudermann opened his ‘Lithuanian Stories’ with ‘The Journey to Tilsit’ in 1917. The reading from it will be accompanied by piano music by the Lithuanian Sudermann contemporaries Max Laurischkus and Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis as well as by the East Prussian Brahms friend Adolf Jensen.
